The Top 6 Tips for Getting the Best Deal When Buying a New Car

Have you got new wheels on your mind? Do your highway trips consist of you ogling your favorite makes and models of cars as you pick your way through rush hour traffic?  If you’re considering purchasing a new vehicle, you’ve got good timing.  Not only does February bring us the substantial sales of President’s Day weekend, you can still cash in on many residual New Year’s sales, as well as put your upcoming tax refund toward your purchase.  Want to get even more bang for your buck?  We’ve got the top 6 tips you need to know before buying your next vehicle.

  1. Come see us!  First on this list is a visit to our Phoenix scrap yard, of course.  You might know that we buy cars still intact, no matter their condition.  However, did you also know that we’ll happily buy car parts, such as car doors, batteries, engine parts, wheels, and more?  Not only will bringing us your old vehicle or vehicle parts keep them from ending up in landfills, but you’ll also walk away with extra money to put towards your new ride.  Or maybe invest in a membership to a car wash to keep your purchase looking shiny and new :).
  2. Lunch hour looking.  The slowest times at dealerships tend to be late morning through mid-afternoon.  Dealership employees might be more willing to cut a deal if you’re the only potential sale they’ve got.
  3. Don’t be a weekend warrior.  Think about it – EVERYONE wants to car shop on a weekend.  Going on, say, a Tuesday or Wednesday will ensure that you get more personal treatment, and will feel less rushed as you peruse the selection.
  4. On that note, the time of month you shop matters as well.  If you don’t make it to the President’s Day sale, try holding out until the last day or two of the month.  Many dealerships calculate their bonuses and commissions on the last day of the month, which can lead to greater pressure placed on eager sales people, and steeper discounts for you.
  5. Be open to suggestions.  Fear of fast-talking and swindling aside, sometimes dealership employees have really great information for how you can get an even nicer model, or bonus vehicle features, for about the same price that you’re after.  Feel free to ask about vehicle brand deals and incentives you might be eligible for.
  6. Bring the family.  Not only is it important for you to test-drive your potential purchase, but you want to know how the passenger seat and back seats feel as well.  Whether you regularly tote around a long-legged teenager, or a little one in a car seat, you want to make sure the vehicle is a good fit for your whole family.  While test-driving, be sure to pull a couple U-turns and try to parallel park.  You know – real-life driving shenanigans.

Getting a new vehicle is so exciting; and it’s made even better when you’ve got a few tips and tricks in mind to make sure you get the very best deal possible.  Bringing in your old vehicle to be recycled and repurposed at our Arizona salvage yard first is just the first step, but it’s an important one.
